Replace Roof Shingles - Fix That Leak Today

It can be inevitable that one or more of you roof shingles can be damaged and need replacement.

It’s important to check on this situation because a damaged or missing roof shingle will create a bigger risk for leaking which can ultimately cause damage to your home. You can replace roof shingles yourself and here are some suggestions.

The first thing to do is to loosen the adhesive under the tabs of the roof shingles in the row above the damaged shingle. Once loosened, lift the tabs and remove the exposed nails securing the shingle above the one you need to replace.

Then lift the tabs of the shingle immediately above the shingle you need to replace and remove the nails securing that one. It should be securing the shingle you need to replace.

You should now be able to remove the damaged shingle. Take a new shingle and place it in the same spot.

Nail it in place. Then lift up the tabs on the shingle above this and apply cement under each tab.

If you repeat the same procedure for other damaged shingles you’ll find that you can easily have them replaced and avoid leakage or other roofing problems. It is a relatively simple and low cost procedure and avoids bigger problems later on.

Just be sure to apply good safety practices though. Use a good quality ladder and make certain not to do this procedure if the roof is wet or icy. Safety is key so be careful and be smart.
